New B.C. pension standards legislation in force this fall July 15 2015
New pension laws designed to bring the BC Pension Benefits Standards Act into harmony with the rules of neighbouring Alberta will take effect on Sept. 30, 2015. Significant changes include:
- Immediate vesting of pension benefits for all service
- Easier unlocking of pension benefits and financial hardship
- New disclosure requirements for member communications
- Stricter plan governance rules.
Updates on the progress of the new Pension Benefits Standards Act will be posted on the Financial Institutions Commission's website at: http://www.fic.gov.bc.ca/
Nouvelle législation sur les normes de pension de la C.-B. en vigueur cet automne
De nouvelles lois sur les pensions visant à harmoniser la Loi sur les normes de prestation de pension de la Colombie-Britannique avec les règles de l'Alberta, sa province voisine, prendront effet le 30 septembre 2015. Les changements les plus importants incluent :
- L’acquisition immédiate des prestations de retraite pour tous les services
- Déblocage plus facile des prestations de retraite et du préjudice financier
- Nouvelles exigences de divulgation dans les communications aux membres
- Règles de gouvernance du régime plus strictes.
Les mises à jour sur les progrès de la nouvelle Loi sur les normes de prestation de pension seront publiées sur le site Web de la Commission des Institutions financières à: http://www.fic.gov.bc.ca/
