Ontario Adds New Protections for Precarious and Foreign Workers December 02 2015
On November 20th, 2015, the Employment Standards Act was amended with the goal of providing additional protection for precarious and foreign workers employed within the province.
Precarious employment refers to work that is temporary, done on a part-time basis, or fluctuates according the season. Under the new amendment, employees hired through temp agencies will have greater recourse in recovering unpaid wages.
Foreign nationals seeking employment through the immigration or foreign temporary employee programs are likewise subject to new protections. Recruiters and employers are not permitted to take passports or work permits belonging to foreign workers; nor are they permitted to directly or indirectly charge such workers for goods, benefits, recruitment, or placement costs.

Le 20 novembre 2015, la Loi sur les normes d’emploi a été modifiée dans le but de fournir une protection supplémentaire aux travailleurs précaires et étrangers dans la province.
Un emploi précaire fait référence au travail temporaire, effectué à temps partiel, ou qui fluctue selon la saison. En vertu du nouvel amendement, les employés embauchés par les agences de placement temporaire auront davantage de recours pour recouvrer les salaires impayés.
Les ressortissants étrangers qui cherchent un emploi par le biais de programmes d'immigration ou s’adressant aux travailleurs étrangers temporaires sont également soumis à de nouvelles protections. Les employeurs et les recruteurs ne sont pas autorisés à prendre les passeports ou les permis de travail appartenant à des travailleurs étrangers, ni de leur réclamer, directement ou indirectement, des frais pour des biens ou des avantages, ou des coûts de recrutement ou de placement.
